Competition Winners

The following 3 winners have been announced.

blue one

First Prize

Title: MixItUp, by George Shamugia, School of Technology & Management, London, UK

Innovative use of flash to provide a very pleasing user experience. First glances you could be mistaken at thinking that it provides just a list of cocktails… But you also get a glossary of cocktail terms, pictures of all your favourite cocktails, instructions on how to make them, ability to search by name, alcohol strength and by letter. If that wasn’t enough it also allows you to search the local area for your nearest pubs/clubs/cafes showing a map and the contact details. There are also a few more hidden gems in this application, but I’ll let you find them out for yourself!

blue two

Second Prize

Title: CampusZone Events, by Cassio Melo!, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil

Great simple tool for making sure you don't miss any important events again. Designed for sharing news of upcoming popular events and perhaps some college seminars too. Very easy to use incorporating the ability to save any events you see directly into your phone calendar as a reminder. This application is still in early stages but there are lots of possible additions for the future.

blue three

Third Prize

Title: Chess Campus, by Imam Habibi, Institut Eurecom, France

Not just an ordinary chess game? With multiplayer gaming over Bluetooth those dull lectures will no longer feel so long. The game has a fully featured chess client including some of the advanced moves (king/rook moves). If that wasn't enough, you can even use it to chat in game. This is a well rounded chess game with a few surprises!

The Brief

Develop an innovative mobile application or service that enhances campus life.

Description
In recent years, mobile devices (especially mobile phones) have become an integral and indispensable part of student life. In this competition we are looking for innovative applications or services which run on these devices and enhance student life - either on campus, around town, or in residence. These applications can encompass many things, from entertainment, sports and shopping through to safety, health and the pursuit of academic excellence. They can be stand-alone or involve interaction with social networking sites, university websites, other sites or services, or even the physical world! However, we're looking for real insight - so we don't want to be in any way prescriptive.
Success Criteria

The winning applications or services will:

  • show a real insight into campus life
  • clearly address a specific need or opportunity
  • have the potential to make a difference to the on-campus lives of a significant number of students
