We are pleased to announce the first of a series steps we are taking to help promote Betavine apps to a wider audience. As of lunchtime today, there is now a link to betavine.mobi in the Applications area on Vodafone Live! in Spain. This is a fantastic opportunity that opens up Betavine to over 16 million mobile users! If this proves popular we hope to link with other countries in the near future.
The homepage displayed to users accessing the site from Vodafone Live! contains a set of 'Featured Applications'. If you would like to showcase your application via this channel, please email webmaster@betavine.net.
Vodafone Global are launching a suite of applications that work on a range of phones. Due to the way apps are hosted, and our inbuilt feedback and deployment system they have chosen Betavine to partner with.
Why not have a look at some of the apps!

Hello Fellow Mobilists and web designers
Hello Fellow Mobilists
I'm Idriss salim and I'm interested in all things mobile and computers. I've been creating mobile apps since the earliest days of texting etc. I had a Vodapad X.25 link into Voda's network 'back in the day.' Before that, I used to design GSM stuffand mostly the DSP that makes the radio work and web site designs. Got a bunch of patents in that. I've run my own New Media business and mobile apps business and now mostly do consulting (which is not supposed to be a pitch :) Most recently I was a master of web design.I claim to have implemented the first ever mobile portal way back in the early HDML days (90s),but back then mobile web was still just a twinkle in our eyes, so it didn't fly. We tried to simulate experience using Html, photoshop, dreamweaver, flash program, javascript with an experience card, which was early 'almost WiFi'.Again, crap experience, no business model - usual story. Anyhow, just checking out Betavine. Came a while back and went away again - I never found them to be of any value, mostly because they are usually very limited in what you can do with the network. Let's hope this time is different. I'm researching the various 'open API' initiatives with operators. I'm speaking at ecomm 08 on 'what drives wireless innovation' and, of course, 'open' is a word that seems to go hand in hand with innovation. What we all mean by 'open' is another matter. I thought I'd get the Betavine perspective by hanging out here for a while. I noted in the FAQ that in response to the question of whether participating in this site will help with Vodafone 'partnership,' the answer is a resounding no. That seems a contradiction to me, but I guess it's being 'open' with the truth. |

Hi Idriss, welcome to the community.
It sounds like you have tons of great experience and know-how to share - we hope you'll be able to help out a lot of people that are new to mobile... We also hope that you're starting to see a lot more valuable stuff on Betavine these days. We've been introducing a lot of new content to the Resources section. Maybe you could help us provide more information about open APIs? We'll be making some more big changes this summer which will also continue to improve the website. We hope you'll check back with us again then. You raise a good point about Vodafone partnerships, and we're not content with our current answer either. We've been working with a lot of our Vodafone colleagues to change that, so that Betavine community members will have a clear partner track that they can follow to work directly with Vodafone. Stay tuned... |
