Running as sudo doesn't help.
I've tried with other versions of software as well but same result.

Can anybody help me please?

RE: E220 not working on Ubuntu 8.04 as a reply to alledm
Alessandro,

The short answer is the none of the 2.0beta versions work on Ubuntu 8.04 (or Kubuntu or Xubuntu). Your best bet is to revert back to the 1.99.17 version. Before you do so, make sure you clean out every trace of the 2.0beta3 you currently have installed.

Get rid of everything in the folders below and start from scratch.

~/.vmc2
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/vmc

Hope this helps,

Gaz

RE: E220 not working on Ubuntu 8.04 as a reply to Gaz
It seems like I'm having the same sort of issues (E220 card in combination with Ubuntu 8.04, I had a previous post on this forum). I did try the 1.99.17 version, but with not much more luck. I don't feel that much switching back to 7.10. Is there any roadmap/idea if and when support for 8.04 will be available? Looking at the download rates of the .deb, one would say that potentially there are a lot of ubuntu users (true, could be debian users as well) out there.

But as I understand, on 7.10 the card is supposed to be "supported" (as in: it should work). Maybe that would be my best short term solution.

Cheers,
Bert

I have the same and it's working :
1. plug it in and wait a short while
2. in a terminal do :sudo modprobe -r uhci_hcd
3. then do :sudo modprobe uhci_hcd
4. start the driver and everything should work

Have fun

What do you mean with "start the driver..."?

I found on some Ubuntu fora that I should put "blacklist airprime" in /etc/modules.d/blacklist (yes, ubuntu loaded the USB device as an airprime device in my case)

I did 1, 2 and 3. This resulted in:

RE: E220 not working on Ubuntu 8.04 as a reply to Bert
Hi Bert,
It sounds like the device is not being switched properly from CD storage mode to modem mode. There should be a nicely working udev rule that does this by calling the /usr/sbin/huaweiAktBbo command to perform the switch every time the card is inserted. Perhaps you can run this by hand to see if it works? Afterwards you should have two devices called /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1. If this doesn't work capture the error message if any and post it. As an alternative the program 'usb_modeswitch' can also perform this CD->modem switch. I've used that too on occasions.

I have also seen problems where the USB host port hasn't enough power on its own, so as a test try using the double USB cable that came with the device.

Best regards,

Andrew

Still doesn't do the trick :( I was already using the double USB cable.

My steps:
$sudo modprobe -r uhci_hcd

Thereafter this happens after the
$sudo modprobe uhci_hcd

Until yesterday (when I reinstalled Ubuntu) I was working with no problems with Vodafone program.
...My Odyssey started yesterday when for others reasons I had to reinstall my Ubuntu (same version as before 8.04).
Right now I'm going crazy...

I'm trying all versions of Vodafone "driver":

vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux_1.99.17_i386.deb
vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux_2.0.beta1_i386.deb
vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-2.0.beta3-ALL-i386-installer.run

none of them is working.
All the same problem:
----------------
Device Setup not complete

Vodafone Mobile Connect Card driver for Linux cannot connect with the selected device (Huawei E220)
----------------

How can I make a clean uninstall of the run?
What directory does the installer create?

Thanks in advance...

Hi guys,
After some trial and error I almost feel like I am there.... Some extra help would be appreciated.

I blacklisted the /etc/modules.d/blacklist file:
blacklist airprime

to prevent the airprime module being loaded.

When running vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-debug it nicely asks me for a pin number (no errors here anymore).
